What about 4.3? The first guide needs 4.2 but if my brother hasn't even updated that far can he do that without going straight to 4.3?

I don't have the Wii at my house yet but I just want to get ready for now so it doesn't take forever.

As long as he's at 4.2 or under all you need is an SD Card and Google an app called Bannerbomb. You just throw the app on the root of the SD Card, pop it in the Wii, then go to the Wii settings to pull up the SD Card, then you should get a window that says "Run boot.elf?" Click on Okay, then let Bannerbomb do the rest. It also helps if you have a wireless internet signal pumping through the house too, i.e., wireless router or wifi hotspot. Once you do that, then you will have a new channel called The Homebrew Channel, once that's installed, you can start installing new IOS's for USB Loaders and stuff like that

Alright I called him and he said he hasn't taken it online so it might not have 4.3 on it. Does the wii have ethernet also? Because I don't have wireless but I have a router I can plug in my ps3 and pc at the same time. I guess the confusing part is all the different IOS files i need lol. I'm planning on using cfg usbloader http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=147638 but then again I don't know what is the best (most compatible) loader.

Is the Wii compatible with just standard SD card or can I use SDHC or SDXC?

The Wii has built in WiFi, if you want to use an ethernet connection, you'll need the USB adapter for that unfortunately. The main IOS you will need is called cIOSX Rev. 19, it enables loading from the USB ports. The best loader that I've used (and still do) is called WiiFlow. It's got a beautiful interface and certain games need "alternate DOL" files to run, and WiiFlow will automatically download them if you are connected to the internet. Also, once you hack it, DO NOT turn on WiiConnect24, that keeps the Wii online 24/7 and Nintendo can update your Wii whenever they want to due to the EULA that came with 4.2. Also, the Wii is compatible with standard SD Cards and SDHC, as a matter of fact, I'm using a 16GB SDHC for my Wii right now The main problem you may run into is needing to introduce the "trucha bug" to a vulnerable IOS before you can install cIOSX Rev. 19, but there is an app for that called Trucha Bug Restorer, you won't be able to use it until you get The Homebrew Channel installed using Bannerbomb though. If you run into any snags, let me know. I have a few hacks/apps laying around that I can upload for you

I was wondering since I dont have an SD card or reader, my cousin has both (1GB sd card) if I can send the files to my cousin so she can copy them, or do i need to copy files to it more than 1 time? btw he will drop the wii off on sunday possibly so i just dont want it to take more than the first day.

Your brother will need to buy a dedicated SD Card just for the Wii. Yes the SD Card is needed for the hacks, but once the hacks are in place, the SD Card also stores the Apps such as, USB Loaders, emulators, etc. As a matter of fact I have a 16 GB SDHC Card in mine right now.
