Well, I'm finally getting a PS3 for my 19th and 8/12ths birthday (my second one this year!).
Well, due to the lack of parental enjoyment and excitement over this joyous occasion, I did all the shopping myself, and found a 60Gig old version on Newegg, mainly for the benefit of buying old ps2 games. Recently I've found out about some other benefits of the elder PS3 series. For now, I'm wondering if anyone here's heard of "Other OS". Is it worth the loss of updates and downloads?

It's to run Yellow Dog linux on your PS3. Not much good really as anything that isn't a Sony game can't use more than 16 MB for graphics.
The PS2 backwards compatibility isn't perfect as the PS3 only has the graphics decompressor (PS2 didn't have a real graphics chip) hardware while the Emotion Engine is emulated. Upgrade that HDD when you can, 60 gigs goes bye-bye fairly quickly. >8/12 >Not 2/3 Oh u. |

Good luck finding a ps3 that isnt updated that doesnt cost alot. Other OS isn't worth it IMO but I was still angry when they decided to take it out as that was the only purpose to the update. removing a selling point just isnt fair unless they offered refunds or the update had some kind of added feature.

Emulated? Don't the old-old versions like the 60GB contain the real Emotion Engine? I think the one I'm getting is the CECHAXX, but I'm not sure.
